Candida is the scientific name for yeast. It is a fungus that lives almost everywhere, including inside your body. Usually, the immune system keeps yeast under control, but sometimes an overgrowth of this fungus can cause a wide range of health conditions.
Candida albicans is the type of fungus that most commonly causes yeast infections. Candida Albicans is found in small numbers in different areas of the body, such as the mouth, intestinal tract, or vagina. The excessive and sudden growth of this fungus, which leads to an imbalance in the other microorganisms, is what causes the infection. Yeast infections caused by different fungi of this type can be more challenging and require more aggressive treatment.
Use of antibiotics
Broad-spectrum antibiotics cause a large number of bacteria to be eliminated, both the good ones and those that are not so good, producing an imbalance in the body and finding a favorable environment for the growth of yeast.
Uncontrolled diabetes
Yeast infection is a common problem for people with diabetes because high blood sugar levels can easily fuel yeast growth. When there is excess sugar in the blood, there will inevitably be excess sugar in the urine, leading to yeast overgrowth.
Weakened immune system.
A person with a weakened immune system is more likely to develop Candida, for example, people on cancer chemotherapy, people who have had an organ transplant, or people who have HIV.
